Mar Gil Álvarez is currently a student in the Master’s program of Psychology: Theory and Research at KU Leuven. She recently obtained a Master’s degree in Social and Cultural Anthropology at the same university. She completed her Bachelor’s degree in Psychology in 2019 at Universidad Autónoma de Madrid (UAM).

 

Her interests range from existential concerns, anthropology of religion, the construction of the ethical subject to digital ethnography and STS. Mar’s more recent work has been developed in the framework of her MA Thesis in Anthropology. As part of her research, she explored how the philosophy of the Indian guru, Paramahansa Yogananda, is embedded in the daily life of his devotees. At the same time, she collaborated on a different project centred on ‘care’, the product of which was presented at the 2020 EASST/4s conference. This work discussed the notion of autonomy through three care-practices assemblages. Prior to this, Mar carried out a project with online Role-players, using an Actor-Network Theory lens, as part of her traineeship in Contemporary Childhood, a research group working in UAM’s Psychology Faculty.

Mar was awarded in 2018 with a research collaboration scholarship from the Ministerio de Educación Cultura y Deporte (Spanish Ministry of Education, Culture and Sports). In addition, in 2019, she was one of the recipients of the Mutua Madrileña’ scholarship for postgraduate studies.
